Portside Arts Center is seeking 7th - 12th graders to participate in our Young Artist Residency Program (YARP).
Portside’s YARP gives students the opportunity to volunteer once a week assisting our Art Teachers with our After School Arts Program and Summer Arts Camp. Once students have fulfilled their required volunteer hours they will be given a scholarship to attend one of Portside’s 4-week visual arts classes of their choice!
Young Resident Artists Duties
Helping children pre-k-1st grades with their homework
Helping children with their art projects
Assisting the art teacher with passing out supplies
Helping the children clean up
Helping the children stay on task
Showing up to work on time & leaving on time
Calling the office if you can not attend
Volunteer Requirements After School Arts Program: Students must participate once a week from 3:30/4:00-6:00pm for three months. Students who attend Mother of Divine Grace or Our Lady of Port Richmond will be able to ride the Portside ArtsMobile from their school to the Portside on their volunteer day. Summer Arts Camp: Students must participate once a week from 8:15am-3:30pm.
Residency Benefits Once the student has completed their three month residency they will be given a scholarship to attend one of the following 4 week art classes. Students will also be given a certificate of completion as well as a personalized recommendation letter to use for high school, college and job applications.
Visual Arts Class - (Ages 10-13yrs) Explore the creative possibilities with a broad range of materials and techniques to create unique projects. In this class students will experience drawing, painting, printmaking, stop motion animation, fiber arts, clay sculpture, found object sculpture and more!
Drawing Class - (Ages 10-13yrs) In this class students will be introduced to basic drawing skills. Students will learn the fundamentals of drawing through; line, form, measurements, composition, shading, and perspective.
Teen Art Studio - (Ages 14-17yrs) Teen Art Studio is a fun innovative class that focuses on different art projects using different art techniques, concepts and materials! Some of the projects will include painting, collage, photo transfer, printmaking, stenciling, oil pastels and more.This class is fun creative and contemporary. This class is great for building a well-rounded portfolio.
Teen Drawing Class - (Ages 14-17yrs) This course focusing on different drawing techniques. Students will learn the basics in figure, portrait and contemporary drawing; measurements, foreshortening, composition, shading, and perspective. Students are welcomed to bring their own materials to class but if you don’t have any we will provides.
