Last friday Portside Arts Center had all hands on deck at Adaire School in Fishtown! Students who had participated in our After School Arts program were awarded with certificates of accomplishment at a special arts assembly held in their honor. Each student also received a free pass to a class at Portside! These blossoming talents held an art show for their classmates grade 1st-4th, as well as their parents, and there was a buzz in the air as parents and children alike got excited for our program to start up again next year! ![]() For those not familiar with our after school program, it is our response to the drastic cuts to arts education in our school systems. As a neighborhood resource, we felt an obligation to reach as many students as we could and put back in place the wonder and creativity of the arts. By going into schools such as Adaire, St. Georges, Port Richmond and Our Lady, for a dollar a class per student, we were able to give the kids painting, drawing, arts and crafts. The response has been amazing, and next year we will continue, bigger and better!
