Do you want to influence children’s lives in positive, creative ways? Portside is looking to recruit enthusiastic and energetic Drexel students who are looking to gain valuable hands-on teaching experience. Portside’s summer internship program gives college students an opportunity to work in the classroom with children alongside our lead art teachers during our nine-week art camp.
Portside’s Camp starts on June 10th and ends on August 30th.
Portside will compensate interns for their travel expenses but this position is unpaid. The camp is held Monday through Friday 8:30am-3:30pm all selected interns will make their own schedule.
Portside is a 501c3 nonprofit community arts center located in east end of the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia. Our summer program focuses on visual arts, character building and culturally enriching experiences for children ages 4 to12. Inters will have the opportunity to teach and work one on one with children. During this program, interns will work alongside our lead art teachers and be introduced to many valuable skills such as classroom management, lesson planning, mentoring, conflict resolution and more. Towards the end of the internship, participants will be given the opportunity to create their own visual art lesson and teach their lesson to a group of students. Portside’s lead art teachers will help interns create their lesson as well as give constructive feedback. Once participants complete their internship program they will be given a personalized recommendation letter to use for school and job applications.
